With reasonable care, you may expect many years of dependable use of your Stewart projection screen. The surface of your screen is delicate, so we encourage you to keep your screen clean. Special attention to these instructions should be followed when cleaning.
To protect an ElectriScreen when it is not in use, store it in the fully retracted position. Avoid getting any foreign material on the screen, as cleaning may prove very difficult. It may not be possible to remove scratches, paint, ink, etc.
A draftsman-style brush may be used to lightly whisk away any loose dirt or dust particles. (This type of brush is usually available at office supply stores.)
For tougher spots, you can make a cleaning solution using a water-based detergent and warm water. Moisten a clean, cotton cloth or Q-Tip with this solution; moisten the stained area; and gently lift off the stain. Do not use any other cleaning materials on the screen. Proper cleaning instructions are available in your owner's manual.
Use the white extension (down) limit switch on the electric screen’s motor to adjust the deployed stopping position of your screen. Locate the specific instructions on adjusting the screen extension in your product owner’s manual.
These wrinkles were caused by repacking the screen. Once you have remounted the screen, the wrinkles will eventually flatten out. If the creases are severe, place the tensioned screen and frame in direct sunlight. The screen fabric will soften with heat, which will in turn help reduce creases. You can rub the creases from the backside of the screen with your fingertips to help eliminate. If the creases cannot be removed, call your Stewart dealer for a solution.
Dimples on electric screens are typically caused by dirt particles or other foreign objects (bugs or other flying insects) that have become entrapped in the screen roll. Lower screen and check both sides paying particular attention to the higher region of the screen. Once the particle or bug is removed, the dimple will slowly flatten out in a few days.
Professional techniques should be used when making any electrical connection. A qualified electrician should perform these procedures. They will be able to find electrical hookup information in the owner’s manual.
Small-gauge, 2 conductor, hookup wire is typically used. This can be 20 to 24 gauge, and in fact most technicians will use a single pair of Cat5 wire to connect the screen trigger input to the projector.
The type of cable required should be selected by your technician in conjunction with the requirements of the specific control device and information in the product owner’s manual.
Typically a small-gauge, 4 conductor, hookup cable is used. A Cat5, multi-conductor unshielded, or similar type of electronic cable may also be used in most cases. The recommended wire gauge is 20 to 24 AWG. Use plenum-rated cable when required.
The Stewart STI was designed to operate effectively with many different types of video projectors and signaling equipment. Therefore, the input circuitry is very sensitive to many differing types of signals. The supplied DC transformer has a small, filter capacitor that takes a few seconds to discharge. That capacitor’s stored energy signals the switching circuit to remain on for approximately 20 seconds. Once the capacitor discharges, the screen will retract. This delay will only occur when using the supplied 12V DC transformer during the initial set up stages of the screen.

The large, commercial type screens operate on 120V AC at 5 amps. We advise a minimum 20 amp dedicated circuit for these types of screens as they spike to 9 amps (initial surge) at start up. Smaller video screens use tubular motors that operate on 120V AC at 1.5 amps.
